The inauguaral Ryder Cup match was played at the Worcester County Club, Massachusetts in 1927 for the, now famous, gold trophy presented by Samuel Ryder.
The Ryder Cup was formerly contested biennially between teams from USA and Great Britain and Ireland. But since 1979 the contest has been between golfers from USA and Europe.
The 38th tournament will be held at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport on 1st - 3rd October 2010. Prior to the tournament, itself, are three days of practice open to the public.
Play takes place on the Twenty Ten course, the first course specifically designed to host a Ryder Cup. It measures almost 7500 yards off the back tees and has a par of 71.
The eyes of the world will be on this event, with TV pictures being transmitted to over 400 million people in at least 100 countries.
